Privacy Policy – What a Read
Hey there – this privacy policy explains how we deal with your data when you visit whataread.com or use any of our services ("we", "us", or just "WhataRead"). It's not super fun reading, but we want to be transparent with what info we collect and how it’s used. If you’ve got any questions, feel free to email us at hello@whataread.com. Our address is Diagonal, Barcelona, just FYI.
Stuff you give us
If you fill out a form on our site, place an order, sign up for a newsletter, or contact us – you’re giving us info like your name, email, maybe your kid’s name and birthday (for the book), delivery details, and so on. Depends what you’re doing on the site.
Stuff we collect automatically
When you visit our site, we automatically get some technical data – like your IP address, browser type, what pages you click, how long you stay, etc. It helps us understand what’s working (or not).
Stuff from ads
Sometimes we advertise on other sites (like YouTube). If you see or click one of our ads, we and our partners might use cookies or anonymous tracking to see how it performed. We don’t know exactly who you are from that – it’s more general data.
Stuff from other sources
If you’re using other services or interact with our partners (like payment providers, delivery services, or ad networks), we might get some info about you from them. It’s usually just to help us complete an order or improve how we operate.
Location
Your IP can give us a rough idea of where you’re browsing from. It’s not exact, but it helps with tailoring some stuff (like language or currency).
Marketing preferences
If you tell us how you’d like to hear from us (email, SMS, etc), we’ll try to stick to that. You can change these settings anytime.
No financial info
We don’t store your credit card info. That’s all handled securely by third-party payment folks.
Directly from you – Like when you make a purchase or reach out to us.
Automatically – Through cookies or similar tools when you browse our site.
From partners – Stuff like delivery info or ad performance.
To deliver our books or newsletters to you
To let you know about new features or promos (if you asked for it)
To run contests or surveys
To improve our website and services
To make sure our site works properly for your device
To help with customer service or feedback
To show you ads that are more relevant (sometimes)
We rely on different legal bases to do this – like your consent, fulfilling a contract, or just legit business interest.
We only send marketing stuff if you’ve shown interest or said yes. You can unsubscribe anytime using the link at the bottom of our emails. You can also manage your preferences in your account, or by disabling browser notifications if those are enabled.
We mainly store data on secure servers in the EU. In some cases, info might be transferred outside the EU if needed for things like order delivery or customer support. If so, we make sure it’s done safely and legally.
We keep your data for as long as we need it – usually for legal, tax, or customer support reasons. For orders, that’s typically 7 years. Sometimes we keep anonymous info for longer, for research or stats.
We’ve got security measures to keep your data safe and limit who can access it. If there’s ever a serious breach, and we’re required to, we’ll let you know.
You’ve got the right to:
Ask what data we have on you
Correct wrong info
Ask us to delete it (in some cases)
Say no to certain processing
Limit how we use your info
Request your data in a portable format
Withdraw consent at any time (if we’re relying on it)
If you want to exercise any of these, just reach out to hello@whataread.com. We might ask for some ID first just to make sure it’s really you.
Yeah, we use cookies – small files that help remember things like what’s in your cart or how the site’s performing. Some cookies are essential, others are for analytics or ads. You can block them via your browser, but the site might not work 100% without them.
Some third parties (like Google or Facebook) also use cookies when you interact with our stuff on their platforms. We don’t control those, though.
We might update this policy sometimes. If we do, we’ll post the new version on this page. If it’s a big change, we might email you too. Using the site after changes means you’re cool with the new version.
If you’ve got questions or want to talk about any of this, just email us at hello@whataread.com.
